The economic downturn has hurt many of us – but should we allow wildlife to suffer too?
What's happening to the plants and animals that call Queensland home? At the start of 2009 we had 831 rare species; 361vulnerable species; and 205 endangered species. Queensland’s land clearing rates are twice the total of the rest of Australia combined.
It is a pity that wildlife might have to suffer as a consequence of yet more human mismanagement: first we took their habitat, now we’re removing their support base.
Can you help us help wildlife in these trying times?
With your support, Wildlife Queensland can continue to run hands on programs that support wildlife from the ground up with education, monitoring and habitat improvement.
With support from you, we can continue to campaign for better laws, better planning, better outcomes for wildlife in Queensland.
This year, can we suggest that a portion of your stimulus package from the federal government becomes a generous tax-deductible donation to Wildlife Queensland?
Can wildlife count on you?

Our valuable projects
Our projects support echidnas, platypus, gliders, koalas, quolls, and valuable wildlife habitat.
Quoll Seekers Network is working across Queensland, from the Scenic Rim to Cairns, to help people live alongside quolls and carry out valuable primary research.
Our PlatypusWatch workshops and surveys were taken up by the community.
EchidnaWatch participants increased the number of observation records by 150%.
After less than 12 months MangroveWatch is already monitoring and conserving precious coastal habitat in Moreton Bay.
We’re working with young people through the Queensland Glider Network.
Seagrass-Watch - now with Wildlife Queensland - is keeping an eye on the Bay, despite foul weather and oil spills. |
Campaigns and actions
We encourage and inform governments at all levels to help them make the right decisions for wildlife.
Here are some of 2008-2009’s campaigns
More marine parks - to protect our State’s coastal environment.
Protecting Queensland’s biodiversity
We’re still working to Save Our Stockroutes - and legislation is on the way.
Legal protection of endangered regrowth vegetation - it’s valuable wildlife habitat
The unsustainable east coast shark fishery is now under review - and we are supporting shark research.
Better protection for all Queensland’s Wild Rivers - there’s many more left to declare.
Better planning through Far North Queensland and South-East Queensland’s Regional Plans |
