Dear Friends
Let me share with you what Wildlife Queensland has achieved in the past year with your help.
- Our community engagement projects focusing on quolls, gliders and platypus have been shared across Queensland from north to
south and presented to various groups such as scouts, schools, landcare and catchment groups.
- We continue to take our conservation message to the community through our displays at events such as David Fleay Platypus Day,
Threatened Species Day, Girl Guides Centenary, University of Queensland Orientation Week, Greenfest, local shows and more.
- Successful campaigns have included stock routes retained, Inskip Harbour development stopped, some benefits for the koala and at
least some protection for regrowth.
- Our campaigns team has lodged 40+ submissions with governments on a wide variety of topics from shark fishing to the Traveston
Dam.
- We have lobbied against inappropriate development at the Walsh River, Atherton and Rocky Springs, Townsville.
The Society has had valuable input to government decision-making by participating on committees, working groups and meeting with the
Premier, Ministers and senior bureaucrats on issues ranging from feral animal control, wildlife protection to leasehold land management.
We have brought attention to the issues surrounding wildlife and its habitat by at least 120 appearances in print media, radio interviews
and through television coverage which has been disseminated throughout the state.
We are making progress but need to keep on fighting for every hectare of habitat to ensure that more of our wildlife does not reach the
brink of extinction. We need to not only continue to raise awareness in the Queensland community about wildlife but also enlist their aid
in the fight.
We can not continue this valuable work without your support. This Christmas, make a generous tax-deductible donation to Wildlife
Queensland. We wish you and your family a safe and joyful Christmas and a peaceful 2010.

Our valuable projects
Our projects support echidnas, platypus, gliders, koalas, quolls, and valuable wildlife habitat.
Quoll Seekers Network is working across Queensland, from the Scenic Rim to Cairns, to help people live alongside quolls and carry out valuable primary research.
Our PlatypusWatch workshops and surveys were taken up by the community.
EchidnaWatch participants increased the number of observation records by 150%.
After less than 12 months MangroveWatch is already monitoring and conserving precious coastal habitat in Moreton Bay.
We’re working with young people through the Queensland Glider Network.
Seagrass-Watch - now with Wildlife Queensland - is keeping an eye on the Bay, despite foul weather and oil spills. |
Campaigns and actions
We encourage and inform governments at all levels to help them make the right decisions for wildlife.
Here are some of 2008-2009’s campaigns
More marine parks - to protect our State’s coastal environment.
Protecting Queensland’s biodiversity
We’re still working to Save Our Stockroutes - and legislation is on the way.
Legal protection of endangered regrowth vegetation - it’s valuable wildlife habitat
The unsustainable east coast shark fishery is now under review - and we are supporting shark research.
Better protection for all Queensland’s Wild Rivers - there’s many more left to declare.
Better planning through Far North Queensland and South-East Queensland’s Regional Plans |
We’re working for wildlife
Wildlife Queensland has been working hard to support wildlife for nearly 50 years.
