A few months ago, we heard the noisy miners and butcher birds giving the alarm calls that we normally associate with the neighbourhood cats. It lasted for some time, but no cat was in sight.
We went to investigate and there, half buried at the foot of a large tree was an echidna. Obviously he had come through our urban back yard, and was unusual enough to disturb the locals.
He stayed for a couple of hours then just moved on. We have never seen him again, but it was an amazing experience to see such a wonderful creature in our Brisbane suburb.
