Slaughter in Brisbane Suburb - April 2011

Wildlife Queensland has been advised of the slaughter of a possum, killed by an arrow, skinned and dumped into Spring Creek in the Belmont area.

'This is a disgraceful act and obviously unlawful. Where this unfortunate animal met his death is unknown but those responsible for this shocking deed need to be found, named and shamed' said Des Boyland, spokesperson for Wildlife Queensland. 'They deserve to be subject to no less than the full extent of the law being exercised in this case.'

'Surely such a barbaric act was witnessed by someone or the culprit bragged about their actions. Wildlife Queensland would encourage anyone with any knowledge of this shocking deed to inform the police' stated Boyland.

It is Wildlife Queensland’s understanding that the RSPCA and Department of Environment and Resource Management have been advised.

Wildlife Queensland continues to be outraged at the apparent increase in animal cruelty cases being reported in recent times. The increase in penalties for acts of animal cruelty introduced by the Bligh Government recently is to be commended and hopefully will assist in reducing this alarming trend.
