Parts of Queensland are again reeling from the effects of another natural disaster, Cyclone Yasi. We have been receiving enquiries and offers of help. Here is some information that might help.

For residents of far north Queensland

  1. If you have found injured wildlife, please contact one of the following wildlife rescue groups:
    •  FNQ Wildlife Rescue 07 4053 4467
    •  North Qld Wildlife Care (Townsville) 0414 717374
    • Mission Beach Wildcare 07 4068 7272.
  2. You can take injured wildlife to Tully Vet Clinic on 15th and 16th February and to Cairns Vet Clinic on 17th and 18th February. Call 4053 4467 to confirm.
  3. If you live in or near mahogany glider habitat (between Ollera Creek, 40 km south of Ingham, and Hull River near Tully) and you are able to put out feeding stations and/or nestboxes on your property – please register with Terrain Natural Resource Management on 4043 8000. Instructions will be given on the safest method and most appropriate food.
  4. If you think you have seen a mahogany glider, or a sugar glider, please call Terrain on 4043 8000 and leave your name and the location. A member of the Cyclone Yasi Natural Environment Recovery Group will contact you as soon as possible.
  5. Let Wildlife Queensland know if there is anything we can do to assist in future recovery. Email wpsq@wildlife.org.au

To everyone  – how you can help

  1. To volunteer in the region, please contact Emergency Volunteering or phone 1800 994 100.
  2. Donate to Wildlife Queensland if you would like to assist in both immediate priorities and long-term recovery such as the replanting of habitat and food trees and installation of nest boxes in the region.
