Traveston Crossing dam is back on the agenda. The media headlines on Sunday 13 September were alarming and brought shock. What actually happened was far less dramatic.

The Federal Minister Hon Peter Garrett's Department has received a draft report by Colin Jensen, Coordinator General in which he outlined extensive environmental conditions that he believed would permit the $1.6 B project to proceed.

The Federal Minister has indicated that he will not be rushed into a decision. The Minister has 30 working days at his disposal and an additional 30 working days should he require that to review the draft and make a decision. In addition the Minister may request additional information and in doing so suspend the process.

Peter Garrett claims he is aware of the views of the Premier and the Queensland Government but they are not material to his decision making. Make sure Garrett knows your views and your concerns about endangered wildlife and adverse impacts on matters of national significance. These are material matters the Minister must consider.

There is no doubt about the Premier's commitment to this potential environmental disaster that will cause environmental harm breaching the Queensland legislation. Dismiss the misleading headlines. Support for the fight against the dam must continue. Act now!

Email your views to the federal Minister for the Environment, Peter Garrett.
