Give Peace a Dance: Thank You Earthdance SEQ 2008 - October 2008

The Earthdance Community Network connects the international community of Earthdance events, people and related organisations and groups with social networking tools, socially conscious media and products, and resources for building a peaceful and sustainable world.

The goal this year was to stretch resources to raise as much money for charity as humanly possible! Many generous and willing individuals donated time, skills, resources and unlimited energy to make this event happen.

Earthdance SEQ continues to grow in attendance and support each year. This year’s event, held on the weekend of 13-15 September, was enjoyed by all participants, thanks mainly to the solid crew of volunteers. We saw more charity funds raised than any previous Earthdance SEQ, due to the massive support from a wide variety of artists, volunteers, crew members and event participants. The Prayer for Peace had its usual emotional impact on participants, many of whom had never experienced anything similar before.

As the chosen charity of this year's Earthdance SEQ, Wildlife Queensland was thrilled to receive $3000 from the proceeds of this wonderful event. A proportion of these funds will be used to help start up conservation initiatives in the Scenic Rim area, not too far from the regular site of Earthdance SEQ at Peak Crossing. We plan to create a new WPSQ branch and organise community activities such as fauna surveys and monitoring programs for gliders, platypus, quolls, echidnas and other local species.

Wildlife Queensland would like to sincerely thank the organisers Petie and Betty, and all the volunteers and performers involved in Earthdance for choosing us in the first place - and then for surprising us with such a wonderful donation. We look forward to Earthdance 2009.
