WPSQ gets Queensland Glider Network funding - February 2006

Wildlife Queensland is delighted to announce that it has received over $14000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to support the establishment of the Queensland Glider Network.

The Network will be an exciting initiative as part of Wildlife Queensland's Gliders in the Spotlight program. The aim is to raise awareness of gliders and their habitat needs and will work towards creating a statewide network of community groups to monitor glider populations. More about Gliders in the Spotlight.

The funding will immediately pay towards the activities of a coordinator of the Queensland Glider Network. One of the primary activities will be to hold community workshops that will train two groups in the Brisbane area which will monitor and supply up-to-date data on glider populations.

In the long-term, the funding will contribute to better understanding of the distribution, abundance and populations trends of Queensland glider species, which is critical to their effective conservation.

Watch this space for talks and displays at community events and a new portal for the Queensland Glider Network full of opportunities to become involved and the latest activities of the Gliders in the Spotlight program.
