Wildlife Queensland is contributing to a shared vision for Cape York Peninsula through its involvement in creating a concerted conservation agenda in alliance with peak conservation and Indigenous groups.

Wildlife Queensland became a signatory to Cape York Peninsula: Ensuring Its Long Term Protection after being approached by The Wilderness Society in April 2007.

Wildlife Queensland endorsed the statement alongside Chuulangun Aboriginal Corporation, WWF, Queensland Conservation Council, Cairns and Far North Environment Centre, and the Australian Rainforest Conservation Society in order to promote the conservation agenda in this significant region of environmental values and Indigenous heritage.

The statement outlines a cooperative vision for protected areas, vegetation management, wild rivers protection, land management and enterprise, and world heritage.

The signatories hope that the joint commitment of such wide-ranging interest groups will emphasise the credibility of the document's place in the conservation agenda and enable it to be used as a shared vision, discussion paper or outline for a regional environmental strategy direction for Cape York Peninsula.
