Welcome to your latest edition of my.Wildlife eBulletin. Election time again, both for WPSQ state council and for the state government. We thank you for your ongoing support for our conservation challenges, and we hope the future brings some solid outcomes from Queensland's state election to help protect Queensland's environment for future generations.

Why not enter the my.Wildlife eBulletin competition for a chance to win a wildlife DVD. Just answer the following question: approximately how many postcards were received by the state government demanding an end to duck hunting?

Queensland election: where's the environment figure?

Hunting of duck and quail banned forever!

Wildlife Queensland has congratulated Desley Boyle, Minister for Environment and the Beattie Government on their decision to stop recreational hunting of duck and quail forever.

Wildlife Queensland members played a vital role in lobbying the government to show their support for the ban.

Find out more about the recreational hunting ban.

Seabird rescue

Fishing season is rapidly approaching. Unfortunately, catching fish often includes inadvertently catching seabirds. Every season in NSW alone, Australian Seabird Rescue calculates that recreational anglers hook 10,000 seabirds - and only 6% of these incidents involve discarded and unattended tackle.

Find out what to do if you encounter an entangled or injured seabird this spring, or just learn more about the work of Australian Seabird Rescue: email them or go visit their website.
