The future of Australia's biodiversity

The federal government realises the current fragmented approach to managing Australia's biodiversity is not working and it's time for a new strategy.

A draft federal strategy plan has been created that recognises the importance of Australia's biodiversity (or biological diversity) and the urgent need to reverse its decline.

Clearing moratorium welcomed

Wildlife Queensland welcomes the 3-month moratorium on clearing endangered regrowth vegetation announced by the Queensland Government on 7 April 2009.

Find out what Wildlife Queensland is doing about protecting endangered regrowth.

Wenlock River = Wild River?

The Queensland Government is due to decide whether the Wenlock River in Cape York Peninsula should be declared a Wild River. The Wenlock River system is one of the original 19 rivers slated for declaration by the Queensland Government in 2004.

Wildlife Queensland wants the Wenlock River to be protected.

You can help the Wenlock River become a Wild River.

Win with a poultry pen

When quolls raid poultry pens, the retaliation from poultry owners can threaten the quolls' survival. If you live in an area that is known quoll habitat, you could receive up to $750 from Wildlife Queensland to build a quoll-proof poultry pen (conditions apply).

Keep your chooks safe in a quoll-proof pen and quolls are safer too. It's a win-win situation. Find out more about funding for your quoll-proof poultry pen.

Mudlarks wanted

MangroveWatch - Wildlife Queensland's new monitoring project for mangrove health - needs more volunteers for surveys at Wynnum, Fisherman Islands and Lota for May-June 2009. If you like mud and would be able to spend 3-4 weekends a year contributing to the health of Queensland's coastline and marine environments, we want to hear from you.

Yes, I'm interested in helping MangroveWatch
