Rampant development along the coastal strip, and its attendant destruction of wildlife habitat is a major concern for the Sunshine Coast Branch, which plays an active role in lobbying for the conservation and preservation of the natural environment.

Recent achievements

The branch was instrumental in getting Caloundra City Council to form an Environment Advisory Committee, had a great deal of input into Caloundra City Council's Biodiversity Strategy, and pushed for the development and adoption of a Cat Management Policy.

Representation and liaison

It has representation on the Environment Advisory Committee, the University of the Sunshine Coast's Environment Advisory Committee, and the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve Management Committee, and is a member of and liaises with, other local environment, landcare and community groups.

Projects

Major project is FaunaWatch.

Ongoing regular maintenance for completed revegetation and restoration projects at two conservation reserves, one in the hinterland and the other on the coast.

Currently the branch is formulating a plan to apply for funding to Queensland’s 150th anniversary project (Q150) to produce a DVD commemorating co-founder Kathleen McArthur's conservation activities.
