WPSQ Fraser Coast aims to protect native wildlife, conserve their environment and promote conservation values among the Fraser Coast Regional Area community.
Our current activities include: rehabilitation of Arkarra Lagoons, Fay Smith Wetlands Reserve, Aquatic Park, and Tooan Tooan Creek flying fox roost site; frog survey; school activities.
Current policy activities: We successfully combined with other conservation groups to encourage the new Fraser Coast Regional Council to expand the Environmental Advisory Committee from Hervey Bay to the entire region. We are currently lobbying for the Environmental Levy for Hervey Bay to extend to the whole region and we are submitting a cat management policy to Council. We support the campaign against the construction of the Traveston Crossing Dam.
A 24-hour animal rescue hotline provides care for injured native wildlife by licensed volunteer carers. The branch is also active in foreshore protection, tree planting, ibis monitoring and bird watching.
Our meetings alternate between Hervey Bay and Maryborough. In Hervey Bay, the meetings are held at 5pm on the second Monday of the month at the Neighbourhood Centre. Meetings in Maryborough are held on an appropriate weekend.
